My Story
In 1985, the Ozarks embraced me and my two small children, ages four and eight. I was separated from a military life that had no roots. I grew up in Georgia, and began visiting my grandparents in Ava when I was eight years old. They had a 1921 stone house seven miles outside of town. It was the typical country house on a 25 by 25 footprint. This is the house I found myself relocating to in 1985. The house had sat empty for years and had many problems-bad floors, copper heads under the kitchen stoop, old carpet, and a leaky roof. With the help of my mother and some great Ozarks craftsman, it has been transformed into my idea of paradise.
I love being an art teacher and mother, but in 1994 I wanted a place to create and sell my own art work. I bought a building on the square in Ava. It took a year to get ready. It is now my studio, the perfect place to create and show my art. I am still a fulltime art teacher, a daughter (my mother, who is wonderful is in her 80's), mother of two excellent daughters, and a grandmother to two beautiful little girls. I have many wonderful friends, and a life carved out of this magical place.
My studio has a sign on it that says, "Open by appointment or luck," but if the lights are on, I would love to have you come in and visit.
