I hope that you had a wonderful Holiday. Well here it is the New Year and I can't help to wonder what it will bring to us artists. Last year was interesting to say the least who would have predicted the outcome. I myself had an interesting art journey starting with the cold months of January and February which can be challenging to produce my art in my unheated studio. My studio is a converted garage 20' x 20' in size and located behind my home in Old Town St.Charles. It sits just a few steps off of Main Street where over the holidays comes to life with international Santas , legends of literature and the beautiful voices of Christmas Carolers. At the north end of Main I show my artwork at the Foundry and the numerous art fairs and festivals down on Main Street through out the year. I am also represented by the Bluestem Missouri Crafts in Columbia, MO., Harvest Arts Gallery, Eureka, MO. and The Firehouse Gallery in Webster Groves. I feel very fortunate that I have the opportunity to make my art utilizing the skills I amassed working thirty years in the industrial sector. In the mid 1970s I began welding plant stands and lamps out of discarded machinery parts. Soon I moved on to figurative sculpture in the shape of birds, insects and various animals using not only machine parts but found objects that seemed to be everywhere. Now days I still make birds and animals but I also create Jazz Men and Jazz Bugs playing vintage trumpets, trombones and saxophones, Guitar Men out of old electric guitars, and a Radio Dude from an old 50s automobile radio. Art made from "everyday items" My wife, Bridget, and I have been busy collecting these everyday items that will be next musicians, motobirds and others. A collection of photos of my work can be viewed on my photo site. Check out my photos and come out to art fairs to see my latest stuff. Again, have a Happy New Year! Joseph Farmer
