Captured Images - Lori Purk PhotographySince her childhood, Lori Purk has been traveling and exploring with a camera or two in hand. She enjoys photographing all of the delightful surprises that present themselves to her each time she goes out into nature to capture images. “I hope to show the viewer something they may not notice otherwise in this fast paced world. I want you to feel like you are on the journey with me, standing beside me, seeing the same things that impress me and catch my eye.” Some photographers meticulously plan what they want to shoot. Being self taught, Lori is not as concerned with the technical side of photography as she is with the creative side. She simply goes out into the field and patiently waits for the unexpected to present itself. Several decades of making hundreds of thousands of images have helped her to hone her skill with the camera and develop a good eye for composition. “Being outside, the joy of discovery and being able to share with others the sights that I have been blessed to see is what keeps me interested in nature photography.”

Her work can also be seen this fall in a group exhibit with the Missouri Nature and Environmental Photographers at the Powder Valley Conservation Nature Center in St. Louis from Oct 1 to 31.

Lori is represented by several art galleries, including 20:08 Gallery St. Louis on Cherokee Street, which features the work of several noted St. Louis area photographers. Captured Images - Lori Purk PhotographyIn July, 2006 Lori opened her own art gallery, Simpatico, an Art Gallery Co-op, in the historic artist community of Clarksville, MO. She shows and sells her work on weekends along with other BOMH juried artists who work in various mediums. The gallery is open year round on Saturdays from 10 – 5 and Sundays from 11-5 and a visiting artist is on hand every weekend to discuss his or her processes and techniques. For more info on visiting artist schedules visit the Simpatico page on www.loripurk.com or send an email to simpaticoartists@aol.com.

“Clarksville is the perfect place for me to work as a nature photographer. I am constantly inspired by the natural surroundings of the area and the other working artists in the community. Photographing reflections on water and birds in flight are two of the things that challenge me right now and Clarksville provides me with a constant supply of subject matter. From my gallery window, I can view one of the most magnificent rivers in the world and I am only a few miles from many outstanding natural areas. Our part of the river is considered an important birding area by the Audubon Society. I enjoy viewing and photographing a variety of birds that migrate along the Mississippi flyway including one of the largest populations of wintering bald eagles in North America.

“Getting outside, exploring and capturing images that depict the wonders of nature is when I feel the most at ease and true to myself. I hope you enjoy my work and are able to see and feel the same things that I have experienced. I want to share my love of the natural world with you and inspire you to help protect it for future generations to enjoy.”
