Contemporary Missouri artist Vic Barr has been creating things out of wood nearly all his life. As he nurtured his own signature style, his reputation for quality and artistic merit spread. Word- As he amassed the skills and tools of his craft, Vic became obsessed with balance, precision and finish in his original designs. Along the way he passed through the door from skilled craftsman to creative artist. His purpose and challenge is to create useful art that is symbiotic with nature. Vic’s passion lies in sharing the wonder hidden beneath the bark of the trees of the world. And in pursuit of that passion, he has created pieces using more than 80 different species of hardwoods from all over the globe. Vic currently creates a wide range of custom pieces for a growing clientele and exhibits his award-winning creations in galleries and juried art shows throughout the region. He is a juried artist in both the Greater St. Louis Art Association and Best of Missouri Hands. “This is basically a one-person operation, so my perfectionist tendencies drive the execution of each piece. I’m happiest in my workshop – designing and creating pieces that enhance the beauty of the woods of the world. They are spectacular in their own right, so I only use clear finishes on my pieces. And if I can reuse heritage woods that have historical value or hold special meaning for a family, well, that’s even more satisfying.”
