I love creating jewelry that is bright, wiggly, and fun! I've been working in polymer clay for six years creating colorful pins, bracelets, and boxes. I discovered polymer upon graduating college with a degree in deaf education. I immediately fell in love with its unique versatility. I started by selling sign language "I love you" pins to fellow teachers which gave me the idea to pursue my art work more seriously. I gradually spent less time teaching and focused all my attention on polymer. Now I sell to several gift shops and galleries as well as exhibit at about fifteen shows a year, from Kansas City to St. Louis, from Springfield to Chicago. and several cities in between. After working in the studio all week, I can't wait to converse with customers about my latest works. Most of my pieces are created by using an ancient glass technique called millefiori. In this technique, sheets and rods of different colored clay are layed out length-wise to create a cane containing the pattern. The cane is then carefully rolled and stretched; then sliced cross-wise to reveal the design. I also enjoy creating with a "faux" technique; here, a touch of color is added to transparent clay, then sanded, buffed, and polished to imitate stone. I become very child-like when exploring new ideas and capabilities of the clay, the excitement never ends. I want customers to find a piece that adds color and life to their wardrobe, a piece that can inspire a smile and remind them, that as a child, we all wore a little more color!
