John's Bent Tree collection ranges from simple magazine
racks to magnificent king-size canopy beds. Noted celebrities Eddie
Murphy, George Lucas, Neil Diamond, Marlo Thomas and Phil Donahue own
several of his works. Marcia uses natural-looking materials,
including local vines and plants to create her baskets. She signs and dates each one,
and makes her own walnut-hull dye for finishing many of them.

I gather the timber of old barns and craft the wood into furniture and designs that reveal the priceless character of the past. Each unique design shouts, “I’ve been here for many years, and I plan to stay.”
Carolyn Linton Fulton, MO

Some of my most meaningful pieces start when someone’s favorite tree has been downed by weather or disease. I have the honor of being asked to make something out of the tree. It is a true joy to know that these pieces help trigger fond memories of beloved trees.

writing instruments and jewelry chests for friends.

It's very exciting to turn a piece of wood and discover the hidden beauty beneath the surface. The most rewarding, and challenging part of this art fomr is to shape the piece in the best possible way to show its true beauty.

As practical people who appreciate beauty, our
projects demonstrate the principle, form follows function. My husband's

I like to use what I call "heirloom" wood to create a custom piece for people. I have made pieces from old houses and trees because those materials have a special meaning for someone.
George Reed Cuba,

Combining the clean lines of contemporary design with more flowing, nature-oriented elements creates tension and excitement in my work. Sometimes I add moveable parts for fun and surprise.
Nell Kobes Manchester, MO

I like it that some of my construction methods have been used for thousands of years, that some of the wood I use has been rescued from burning, and that a beauty is built into the wood which only needs to be revealed.

People ask me "what type of wood do you like?" My reply is "rotten wood." Most of us see this as discarded or fire wood. I like to see it as my way of recycling. Taking something that is going back to nature and making something useful.

I love to bring out the hidden beauty hiding inside an otherwise common piece of wood. Each piece is worked in a way that best shows the beauty of the wood. I try to highlight, not hide, the subtle inadequacies of the wood, which actually add to the beauty of the piece.
