Erna Garber Erna was born on a farm in Illinois in 1939. She went to a one room rural school and then to high school. Neither school had art classes which she was very interested in. After high school she studied to be an RN with hopes of being able to support some art classes later. But as life goes, she got married andmoved to England with her husband who was in the Air Force. After a number of moves and two children, she finally squeezed in a few art classes. Then one day she discovered glass beads and this became her medium that she fell in love with. She traveled to Washington DC in 1993 to take her first class in glass bead making. Since then she has taken classes from the masters in New York, Arkansas and from several artists who have come to St. Louis to teach. She has taught beginning and intermediate bead making at Craft Alliance, Sorella Beads and Glasshopper Studio in St. Louis. She also teaches private classes in her home based studio. Articles on her work have appeared in the magazines "Lapidary Journal" and "St. Louis Homes and Lifestyles" and in the book "1000 Beads." In June of 2004, Erna and her brother were the featured artists in a month long exhibit at the Margaret Harwell Art Museum in Popular Bluff, MO. Erna helped start the St. Louis Lampworkers Society in St. Louis and served as co-president and then president. She is now the librarian of the society. The Forgotten Corner
