Laurie Bova has a passion for creating decorative as well as functional mosaics. Her mosaics are produced from tesserae of colored mirror and glass. The tesserae are hand cut into varying shapes and sizes with traditional glass cutting tools and then meticulously placed to create a sense of equanimity and appreciation for detail. Glass beads and findings are used to embellish many pieces and the grout is often highlighted with a variety of mediums to enhance the overall aesthetic value. As a result, her mosaics are artistic in nature rather than manufactured. Each piece is unique in design, color, and technique.

Recent work in 2002 included a commission for the private collection of St. George's Catholic Church in Missouri. In addition, Laurie was honored to have her work chosen for display in the Great Hall of the Missouri Governor's Mansion where it will remain a part of the state collection.

Laurie creates mosaics as an expression of her own philosophy that 'life is a mosaic evolving from an infinite mix of bits and pieces. Accept what each piece has to offer and have the courage to make it whole.

Laurie is a native of St. Louis, Missouri and very pleased to be a Best of Missouri Hands juried member.
