Feathered Friends - John Freise, artist

I have been using wood to create unique works of art for many years, but I've only recently begun exhibiting in shows.

While building my studio, I used my design skills to create a professional-looking functional environment. Over the last few years, I have continued to enlarge and improve my studio, and it was recently featured in a national wood arts magazine, also showing several of my pieces.

I rely solely on my imagination and "out-of-the-box" ideas to craft my art pieces. All of my work features exotic woods, roots or burls, and I try to use as many different species as possible. Much of my materials are reclaimed wood that have been discarded by others. No stain is applied, so the natural beauty of each species can be clearly seen. When these exotic woods are combined in multiple forms, they become a single free-flowing artistic piece.

I have discovered that I really enjoy creating unique wall hangings and sculptures. It is very gratifying to take my ideas and turn them into pieces of art that others can appreciate.
