Shirley Eley Nachtrieb, a graduate of Fontbonne College, resides in St. Charles, MO. She paints and teaches throughout Missouri. Her specialties are portraits, landscapes, florals, and collage. Her medias are in watercolor, pastel, acrylics, and mixed media. She paints on location and customizes paintings to suit the client's wishes. She also designs cloth portrait dolls.

For the past 25 years, Shirley's medium has been watercolor; but the subject sometimes dictates which medium she uses in her work. Her paintings are full of color and portray an illusion of inner light. She works on location when possible but also paints from photographs and does composite work, taking information from several sources and combining it into one painting. Since 1982 Shirley has worked with SHARE in St. Louis doing baby portraits for bereaved parents. Her work is in private and corporate collections throughout the United States and Germany.

Shirley is a four-time winner of the prestigious Grumbacher Award of Excellence. Her work is represented in Rockport Publishers book, Creative Watercolor by Mary Ann Beckwith, Pebble Publishing's book, Best of Missouri Hands. In 1998 her work was represented in two books: Exploring Color by Nita Leland and Metaphors of Time and Space Through Layering by the Society of Layerists in Multi-media. Several of her watercolor have appeared on the covers of the Country Register magazine. Her watercolors have also appeared on several of St. Louis Home Builder's Fall Home Show posters. She works with McDonald Publishing in St. Louis designing posters for the school classroom.

Several of Shirley's articles have been published in the St. Peters' Artworks magazine. She has also appeared on numerous Artworks cable television programs demonstrating her talent.
